1 Chronicles & Joshua

Since I last blogged I finished 1 Chronicles & Joshua.  I've kept up to date in my Psalms & Proverbs.  I'm on track to finish Revelation by the end of the month and 1 Kings and maybe Judges :-).

Josuha 23
6: Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;
7: That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:
8: But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

1 Chronicles 21:24

I'm up through ch. 25 in 1 Chronicles.  I should finish that book tomorrow.  I've also been staying on schedule for Psalms & Proverbs and just started Revelation.  I should finish Revelation by the end of the month and may even be able to play catch-up on some of the small NT books I skipped earlier this year (Galatians, Ephesians, James, 1 & 2 Thessalonians I believe ... my schedule's in the car :-)).  My plan for the rest of the month is to stay up to date and finish Joshua & maybe Judges as catch-up for the OT.

This jumped out at me this morning:

1 Chronicles 21:24  And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings without cost.

I like how King David is saying that it should cost us something when we give to the Lord.

no blogging over the weekend :-)

I babysat my 3 yr old nephew this weekend, so I didn't get a chance to jump on here.  Since I last blogged, I've stayed up to date on my daily proverbs, read several chapters in Psalms (I think I'm up to 134 or 135), read several small books in the New Testament (2/3 John, Jude, 1/2 Peter, 2 Tim and some others) and started 1 Chronicles.  We have a tent revival this week at church, so I'm not sure how much extra reading I'll do this week.  I may actually have time to do more as I'll have a bit of down time between work and the tent revival, but we'll see.

1 Chronicles 5:20 stood out to me this morning:
20: And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them: for they cried to God in the battle, and he was intreated of them; because they put their trust in him.

Proving Your Armour

This morning I read 1 Samuel 14 - 17, my daily Proverb, and a few chapters in Psalms.  This stood out to me in 1 Samuel 17:

38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

Before you can use the weapons of warfare, you must first prove them and know how to use them.  So before you can fight spiritually, you must prove prayer and faith in God.

2 Samuel

This morning I finished reading 2 Samuel.  I'm all ready to start a new book with the new month tomorrow - Hebrews is up next for my New Testament reading, Ruth, and then 1 Chronicles are up for my Old Testament reading :-).
I also read Psalm 119 last night :-).

edit:  Scratch that about Hebews.  I just noticed that I blogged about it earlier this week.  I guess it's a different book that I'm starting next for the New Testament.  My schedule's at home, so I'll find out tomorrow :-).

Hebrews

Last night I read Hebrews 1 - 10.  It was my first time seeing the beauty of that book.  I really enjoyed taking the time to read last night after supper instead of just doing my reading in the morning.

took a break break from blogging over the weekend

My notes are at home, but over the weekend I read 2 Sam. 9 - 17, Colossians, and Proverbs 25 - 29.  :-)

2 Samuel 3 - 8

A verse of praise stood out to me today:

2 Sam. 7:22  Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

2 Sam. 1 - 2, Prov. 24, Ps. 118, 119:1-16

Ps. 118:8 reminded me of yesterday's verse about trusting in the Lord
Ps. 118:8 - "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man."

Acts 27 - 28 & Proverbs 22 - 23

Two verses in proverbs stood out to me this morning:
22:19 "That thy trust may be in the Lord ..."
21:12 "Apply thine heart to instruction and thine ears to the words of knowledge"

Have a happy Wednesday!  I'm looking forward to keeping my little ones in the nursery tonight :-).

Acts 25 - 26

Today I enjoyed reading Acts 25 & 26.  I realized that I should live my life so that even if men may accuse me of crimes that they may not be able to prove them.  25:7 says "And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove."  Additionally, 25:25 says "But when I [Festus] found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

Yet at the same time if I do wrong, I should be willing to accept my punishment:
Verse 25:11 says "For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worth of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man my deliver me unto them.  I appeal unto Cesar.

I also realized that I should not live my life according to a religion but instead live my life according to Jesus.  Paul says in 26:4-5 "My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee."  After describing his encounter on the road to Damascus, he says in vs. 19-20 "Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:  But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem and throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance."  After his encounter with the Lord, Paul stopped persecuting the believers and followed after Jesus himself, no matter the cost.  I need to do the same.

This brings to mind the sermon Preacher gave Sunday night during our tent service.  The key verse was Luke 9:2 - "And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me."  A disciple of Christ needs to decide (if ... will) to direct his life after Jesus (come after me ... follow me), deny himself, and die to self (take up his cross) daily.  I wrote this phrase on my mirror so I can see it every day.
